The Silver Cross EMS System, based at Silver Cross Hospital, offers the below specialty classes with limited availability. To register for any of these classes, please call Marilyn at (815) 300-7130. Registration is confirmed upon receipt of payment. Course materials will be mailed 30 days prior to the class date, provided payment has been received. Specialty courses will be held in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center unless otherwise indicated. See our "Map/Directions" page.
The Silver Cross EMS System is no longer teaching ACLS Re-Certification Courses. Our Nursing Education Department here at Silver Cross Hospital has taken over the ACLS re-certification courses and is providing them to in-house staff only. Silver Cross EMS is not currently offering any ACLS Re-Recs but check back later this year for next year's schedule.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS ) Provider CourseThis one day course is for Paramedics, Nurses and Physicians that have never had ACLS before or have let it expire. Participants are required to have a current Healthcare Provider CPR card.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support ( PALS ) Provider CourseThis one day course is for providers that have never had PALS before or have let it expire. PALS recertifications are also welcome, but must attend the entire day. Participants are required to have a current Healthcare Provider CPR card.
Silver Cross EMS is switching to ITLS instead of PHTLS effective 2011. Dates to be announced.

PARAMEDIC EDUCATION PROGRAMThe Silver Cross EMS System holds one Paramedic Class a year at Silver Cross Hospital. Class runs from April to April and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm-10pm. Applications are available every January or February directly from this website with entry testing following each February or March. This class is affiliated with Joliet Junior College and is 24.5 college credit hours. The course is divided into 3 semesters: EMS 215, EMS 216 & 217, and EMS 218 & 219. Tuition is set by JJC and is payable in three semester increments. Our current class that began April 5, 2011, will graduate April 5, 2012. Our next Paramedic Class will begin April 24, 2012 and will graduate May 17, 2013. Applications are now being accepted. Click here to print your copy of the 2012-2013 SCEMSS Paramedic Class Application. You will see there is a mandatory orientation on April 24th with class formally beginning May 8th, 2012. While graduation is slated for May 17th, class formally ends May 8th, 2013. Pre-entrance testing is Monday April 2nd, 2012 at 5:00 pm at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. Class will actually be taught at the Joliet campus in the Hershman Med Arts Building. Tuition, due dates, and application instructions are all included in the Application. Good luck to everyone!
Remember, a pre-requisite to the Paramedic Program is the EMT-Basic Course, offered through our affiliate Joliet Junior College and various local fire departments.

EMT-BASIC COURSE / EMS ASSOCIATES DEGREEJoliet Junior College teaches the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) course and offers an EMS Associates Degree. The EMS Associates degree combines emergency medical theory with a liberal arts education with the scope of the program ranging from EMT-B through Paramedic. The EMT-Basic Course is a pre-requisite to the Paramedic Program.
