PRIMARY EDUCATION COURSES AND SPECIALTY CLASSES

This page contains information for ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS specialty courses as well as the Will/Grundy Paramedic Program, JJC EMS Associates Degree and the JJC EMT-Basic Course. ECRN Classes for System hospitals may be found at www.regionviiems.com

 

The Will/Grundy EMS System, based at Silver Cross Hospital, offers the below specialty classes with  limited availability. To register for any of these classes, please call Marilyn at (815) 740-7130 #2. Registration is confirmed upon receipt of payment. Course materials will be mailed 30 days prior to the class date, provided payment has been received. Specialty courses will be held in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center unless otherwise indicated. For a map and directions see our home page.

 

Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS ) Provider Course

This American Hearth Association class is designed to train advanced health care professionals in proper emergency cardiac care. This 2-day course is for Paramedics, Nurses and Physicians that have never had ACLS before or have let it expire. Participants are required to attend both days and must have a current Healthcare Provider CPR card. ACLS recertifications are now offered to in-house employees only by our Nurse Education Department. Pediatric Advanced Life Support ( PALS ) Provider Course

This American Heart Association class is designed to train advanced health care professionals in pediatric emergencies. Participants are required to have a current Healthcare Provider CPR card. This  one day course is for providers that have never had PALS before, have let it expire, or are in need of a Re-Certification class. PALS recertifications are welcome, but must attend the entire day.

Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support ( PHTLS ) Provider Course

This NAEMT course teaches pre-hospital providers concepts and techniques in pre-hospital trauma patient care. If you already hold a current certification in PHTLS and are in need of a recertification class, you may attend the second day of the below listed provider class.  

  February 26 & 27, 2010 8:00 am - 5:00 pm both days $150.00
  February 25 & 26, 2011 8:00 am - 5:00 pm both days $150.00

   (For Re-Certification you may attend the 2nd day of class for $100.00)

 

PARAMEDIC EDUCATION PROGRAM

The Will/Grundy EMS System holds one Paramedic Class a year at Silver Cross Hospital. Class runs from April to March and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm-10pm. Applications are available every January with entry testing following each February. This class is affiliated with Joliet Junior College and is a minimum of 24.5 college credit hours. The course is divided into 3 semesters: EMS 215, EMS 216 & 217, and EMS 218 & 219. Tuition is set by JJC and is payable in three semester increments. Our current class began April 9, 2009 and will graduate March 26, 2010.

 

Our next class will begin April 6, 2010 and will graduate March 25, 2011.

Tuition for the 2010 course will be $465.00 due 3/30/10, $883.50 due 7/20/10, and $930.00 due 11/2/10. Textbooks are purchased separately. ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS certifications are included offerings. The Application deadline was February 15, 2010 with pre-entrance testing concluding February 18, 2010. Acceptance and denial letters were mailed out on February 25, 2010. Remember, a pre-requisite to the Paramedic Program is the EMT-Basic Course, offered through our affiliate Joliet Junior College and various local fire departments.

EMT-BASIC COURSE / EMS ASSOCIATES DEGREE

Joliet Junior College teaches the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) course and offers an EMS Associates Degree. The EMS Associates degree combines emergency medical theory with a liberal arts education with the scope of the program ranging from EMT-B through Paramedic. The EMT-Basic Course is a pre-requisite to the Paramedic Program.
